Sun City’s opening,
January 1st, 1960, made national headlines and the 50th
Anniversary of the world’s first planned active retirement community
should be just as exciting. Our theme for the year is,
“An
Extraordinary Past --- A Brilliant Future”
and our desire is to have
that theme echo around the world.
Mission Statement
To
recognize the year 2010 as the 50th Anniversary of the
founding of the World’s 1st Active Retirement Community through
year-long celebrations and activities involving and benefiting
residents, businesses and visitors.
Committee Goals
During the 50th
anniversary year, the committee will:
Organize a year of fun events encompassing education,
recreation, entertainment, and social activities designed to
unite residential, local organization and business into one
interconnected community.
Showcase the worldwide appeal of Sun City, the community that
started them all, and to this day remains the best value in
retirement living.
Motivate Sun City residents to active participation in the
planning and implementation of the yearlong activities.
Create a 50th Anniversary legacy to Sun City that will be a
tribute to the vision of its founder, Del E. Webb, and the
residents who have volunteered their ideas, service and
expertise throughout the years.
Contribute to organizations dedicated to serving the needs and
interests of Sun City residents.
